Trager
by Carla Friedman, LMP

Trager is a gentle and nonintrusive way of working with both body and mind. The Trager Practitioner enters the session with a clear mind and "listening hands". Through rhythmic motions, traction and the stretching of connective tissue around joints, the client is invited to safely and painlessly journey into their deepest selves. It is from this place that the work proceeds.
Mentastics are nonstructured, psycho- physical exercises (often taught at the beginning or end of a session) that a client can do both with the Trager Practitioner and on their own. It is through Mentastics that the feeling of Trager can be integrated into everyday life.
People who experience Trager often leave the session with a feeling of fluidity, protectedness, lightness, buyancy, expansiveness, clarity, strength, relaxation, self acceptance and peace. Through listening and letting go of pain, the client penetrates deep psyco-physical holding patterns and begins to understand the idea of "client as healer." Through softness, pleasure, silence and humor, we access, heal and transform our deepest selves.
